Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere

The University of South Florida (USF), College of Marine Science contribution to the Tropical Ocean - Global Atmosphere (TOGA) monitoring array has been the deployment spanning 8 years, at 0°,170°W, of a mooring containing a R.D. Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP).

Two different ADCP mooring types were deployed at this site. In years 1-5 and 7-8, an upward looking 150 kHz ADCP was deployed. During year 6 we tested a "PROTEUS" style mooring designed by the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Labratory (PMEL). This test mooring consisted of a downward looking 150 kHz ADCP that would telemeter home daily averages of the data collected.
