Venice Site Notes

The site is located at 1200 South Harbor Drive, Venice, FL (27° 04.655' N, 82° 27.096' W) at the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Station number 86. Offshore sea surface current speed and direction radial data is provided hourly via a dedicated cellular modem to a central processing station located at the University of South Florida/College of Marine Science in St. Petersburg, FL, where the data is processed and web served. Site funding and operation is via a cooperative effort between the University of South Florida's/College of Marine Science's COMPS Progran, NOAA IOOS's Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association (SECOORA), and the U.S. Coast Guard. This site became operational on 4/27/04.
